Spwill, tks for the interesting photos. So thats what Virginia Beach looks like. I prefer Piha. :) Looking at weather for Virginia there has been snow in the west of the state. That must be in the Applachians.

Flatt, clean, tidy and boring.
Hot summers and mild winters with a little snow.

Some heavy rain here on the Coast yesterday with Wilma out to the East.

Stupid CNN Reporter... Live report and he said he was " In the eye of the Storm " and the wind was gusting around 100mph...

Well I always thought if you were in the " Eye " there was no wind...   8)

it was the areas to the south of the eye that got the strongest winds (100mph +)
because of the fast forward speed of the hurricane that had to be added to the windspeed, and because of the onshore winds over the southern florida coastline...

Yeah :-k well... there could be a few more.
Storm Alemea ( or whatever it's name was) that drenched Haiti should join up in Wilma's path and produce some good weather for the north Atlantic if they get that far. :)
I see that that storm is a 'Gone-burger' now.

Has anyone got a favourite name that they would like to name a TC or Hurricane?

I would love to see a Hurricane Stig :D
...or a TC Sterence :D

What about Hurricane Xena?, Tropical Storm Yellowbeard (after the Monty Python story with the late Graham Chapman and Marty Feldman) and hurricane Ziggy, after the David Bowie song.
... but then you could have.......

Back in NZ :D after a short visit to USA.

It's noticeable how clean our skies are here.
A lot of haze (pollution) over there especially around LA where visibility on one day was down to about 2km in fine weather.

Plan to return to USA next April or May to STORM CHASE :D

Welcome back.
I suspose LA's pollution in comparison makes ChCh look clean and green on a smoggy day here
I see Beta is upgraded to Hurricane now, they must be getting sick of them in that part of the world :-S

Yes.

I met a lady at Virginia Beach who told me her and her Family had moved to Florida but only lasted a year there as on three occasions they were forced to evacuate due to Hurricanes. Their house was never damaged but the move each time was very costly.

I have noticed that during the North Atlantic hurricane season, whenever we in the UK have unusually warm, muggy weather -especially when preceded by mists, that is when there are hurricanes threatening the northern Caribbian islands and the USA.

Do any here have records of mists and warm muggy weather for the dates of those hurricanes or cylones elsewhere?
