Would that be out toward Kermadec Island?

You have had a more or less similar if not stable run of weather for the last few weeks?

Look out for a change of some sort in about 6 days or so.

Looks like fireworks night could be a bit dampish in Auckland and Christchurch due to a southwester. About two more Michael days (wind and cloud) left and then the weather should fine up.

Next week an upper trough lurking to the north of the country may mean Isolated afternoon thunderstorms over Waikato/Northland.

Disagree Saturday night looks good for us, maybe a tad bit windy. But no rain.

With regards to the upper level trough NZstorm, are you talking about the one around tuesday? Just curious as i saw that on a chart yesterday and i just wanted to know that I had interpreted it correctly.

Have had a mild night in the North, 16-17C with dew points at the Airport of 15C. Will have a warm day if we see much sun

Looks like periods of rain on Monday with easterlies here, southerlies in Auckland at this point.

Becoming thundery again in SE Australia..

Thunderstorm risks look only to be highest in Northland at this point.

Winds should only be light next week so Sea breezes very likely.

Inland heating and sea breeze convergence should produce afternoon showers.
Hope that upper Low tracks further South as there will be a risk of Thunderstorms around it. :D

Just got back from a few days down in Dunedin and Palmerston. No northwesterly gales eventuated down there; just fresh winds and some brief spitting rain yesterday. Coming back this morning, it was raining from Palmerston (where I stayed) through to Timaru, with low cloud about the hills. Could've been some undercutting with a weak southerly, or a warm front. High cloud and weak sunshine in Chch now.

Yes it was acting strangely... something you'd expect to see from the Christchurch radar with that blocking effect.. but from what?

Would the general consensus be that the weather is not as you might have expected/had been predicted?

The false echoes on the Auckland radar yesterday were anomalous propagation (or AP echoes). This happens when there is a strong inversion present and the radar beam is bent back down and hits the ground/ocean. You can usually tell AP echoes as they are generally on a radial away from the radar.

Here's a website that explains it....

Wam Bam Slam  4:00am this morning woken to big gusts of wind roaring past and throwing our plastic chairs around and leaving a pine tree uprooted down at the park it certainly was strong this morning I coudlnt believe the noise highest reading i got was 98kmh Northerly.
24C here at almost 10pm id say its gonna reach 30's maybe ;) especially if that SW stays away till this evening.
Cheers

( i did notice that radial nature and so figured it was not real rain, LOL)
