the wind here has gone back to the west and is fading away and the barometer has stopped rising
so something is happening, and it had a troughy look to the sky late afternooon, with some kelvin wave clouds even

Looks like a lot of cloud to come across over the next 12 to 24hours.
Would be good to get some afternoon sunshine tomorrow to get some good lift happening.

Looks good up north again for Thunderstorms  ohh well hope you guys get some good pics especailly Spwill you get some great ones see if you can get some lightning too ;) .
Actually to recall its not really that bad in thunder terms here because last year we didnt get our first thunder day until 15th November and that was an electrical storm that one with not much rain and no hail. Although having saying that we have had Thunder earlier like in September 2003 as Aaron will recall and i Believe its on NZTS site quite a good one too.
I was reading the MS calendar today and on the 23rd of November 1992 a big thunderstorm hit Roxborugh in Otago with a record rainfall of 80mm in under an hour  :D .
But hey the more thunder in NZ the better but the more here the even Merrier aye JOHN? 8) .
Cheers
JASON.

Your weather is the mirror to ours in the N Atlantic. It poured and poured all night with no let up to the spell in sight yet.

I gather Japan or someplace copped a fair bit too, recently.

looks like we are in for an overcast day with the odd shower around. there is plenty of low level instability there. I'm not expecting any thunderstorm activity today, upper air doesn't look cold enough to me and surface dewpoints of 12C don't favour deep convection unless there is particularly cold air aloft, which there isn't.

Yes, looking quite showery in the west. I guess some convergence there.
Fairly soild overcast here at the moment.

Looks to be isolated thunderstorms offshore (west central NZ) according to satellite/ricky's tracker.

A cool overcaste day in Auckland. :( 15C, light rain and a few showers about.
Any Towering Cu look to be hitting a stablelayer.

A few heavy showers over Northland with the sunshine up there.

Midday sounding indicates cu tops to 3500m, maybe a bit higher. Big enough clouds to produce localised heavy showers.

We got a very useful 11.5mm during the late afternoon, hopefully the rainwater tanks will keep topped up as we go into summer.

Anyone seen the Darwin tracker tonight? http://www.northauschasers.com/Stormvue/StormVue.html

Currently it is showing 121 strikes per minute  I'll really have to organise a trip there next year.

Cheers,

G
