Headed south toward Hororata, (sp?) few serfics on radio. Observed heavy rain and nice bases although no lightning seen. Then out to Springfield, Heavy-Moderate rain for most of the trip. Serfics again on the radio although again no lightning seen.

Looks like thats it, as temp is now 10 C.

No thunder that I've noticed, but showers began shortly after my last post, and raining steadily this evening. Southerly wind has died down.

TV1 reported (in the weather segment) surface flooding in Oxford from a thunderstorm with heavy rain and hail this afternoon. Thunderstorm also reported at Kaikoura.

There could of been a thunderstorm in Oxford judging by the cloud I saw but as I said, I had the radio going and I never heard any sferics.
Driving towards Kirwee (about 1pm) there was a 'rain-shaft' looking towards Springfield which could of contained hail.
Steady rain here in Somerfield with 12.3mm to 6pm.
Raining again now.
No wind. It's been calm here ever since we got home.
Borometer slow also in upward movement.

There could of been a thunderstorm in Oxford
TV1 weather said there was a TS at Oxford with some flooding.

North Islands turn tomorrow. Don't expect much in Auckland. Some brief heavy showers with a low chance of thunder.

judging by my observations, it wouldn't of been much though??
Where do they get their info from?

Raining steadily again here. Calm
Is the MetService rain gauge at the airport broken?
According to 7pm observations it said they have had 0.00mm of rain???
Rainfall has been quite steady and general over Canterbury today, with some good falls in some areas :)

This has been noted before at times when it looks interesting for Canterbury. I'm skeptic. Paul?

I don't know about Sunday afternoon, but on Saturday afternoon after a TS approached the area of the radar, we lost it for a few hours due to a communications problem (not the radar itself) which Telecom was able to correct by early evening.

A pic from on Saturday! Enjoy. A still from my GS400 in widescreen mode. I've made it smaller. At full resolution it's 957x576 pixels and doesn't look all that bad. The quality is not all that bad for a video camera.

Dam powerlines! Got a few more I'll put up later.

Cheers

Yes, theres nothing wrong with that photo Aaron. Good quality. I have been looking at movie cameras a lot lately but havn't come to a decision. The GS400 was one camera I looked at closely. A great camera.
Really need a movie camera of that calibre for storm chasing. :)

Thanks guy's. I'm not too sure how far away it is, behind those trees. Not too far away!

Here's a full frame of video, quality not too bad but not as good as a digital camera. The car is moving so there's a bit of blur on the sides.

Cheers

Aaron, thats a great picture from a video camera - I hope you don't mind - I've done a little post processing in GIMP (levels, curves, local contrast) and the image can be made to 'pop'

Cheers,

G
