Hi guys... Bear with me here... I am nearly 50 and seen nothing like this... Any ideas...

Dusk is a great time for looking at clouds as the light shows up some interesting detail.

The clouds are Stratocumulus within very stable air. Local topography is playing a role in the formation with a wave pattern there. Elevation looks to be around 1000m and the NZPP sounding confirms this with the lifted condensation level at 950m.

Cheers nzstorm... The pics are looking towards the South... So the Tararua Ranges are to the East... And only about 10kms away... 8)
