that other low in the tasman now has some big cb lines in it!
looks like the 2 will combine and we could get good rain alright

yes, the only sign that it might be raining by the end of the day was there was some towering cumulus out to sea this morning, which showed there was instability there (if you did not have any computer models!

but there is a bit of a dry line running north south!
i.e lots of rain just offshore here, and west of kaipara and in the hauraki hulf and between dargavile and hokianga....the rain bands are moving south...so the dry slot to the north of us will mean the best of the rain will evade us here until it all fills in...which hpefully it will do overnight :)

a nice drop of rain
(my rain gauge was over reading, i will investitage that)
20 to 30 mm recorded in the area

rain should move down into the kawkes bay
the cows i was milking this morning were shivering, some of them..only 10oC here at the moment....and its nearly summer!

at 5:30 am there was a big area of pink on the rain radar over the hunuas an firth of thames....looked very black over that way at first light!

43mm at cooks beach, coromandel
they are way behind for their annual rain total there too!

Imagine what the cows would be like in the SI where there has been frost in places this morning.

Intermittent rain overnight with 18mm recorded at Grey Lynn. Good enough to water the garden.

Satellite indicates a large cb over North Auckland. Can't see much from here as there too much cloud.

COLD,12C with a fresh Easterly.

I see Dunedin Airport had a temp of just 1C this morn. Cold enough to damage gardens and some horticultral crops down there on the Taieri.

cows can handle frost much better, as there is no wind ....but wind and rain is much colder on exposed bodies ;)

the deepening of the system must have added to the temperature drop, plus there was a big cold injection from that front that went up the east coast the day before
when you get a temperature drop like that, and the DP was 10oC, then you get lots of rain, despite the realtively low DP to start with...
30 kt gusts here from the SE (53 kph)

Thats the end of rain for a while. Looks like we are now in for a prolonged sunny dry spell.

Gisborne is in for a wet period.

vibration from the strong SE wind caused my rain gauge to give false tips
I just now put some more guy wires on it....its the strongest SEer we have had for a long time...
I am going to increase the height of the mast for the windspeed to 10m next too (standard height)
