Forum changes

Unread post by Skywatcher »

After recent "discussions" on the forum I've decided to make some changes:

Private Messages
Have been enabled with some restrictions - no attachments and a max of 10 messages in a user's In, Out and Saved message boxes.

RSS Feed
I found a very basic feed which requires very few changes to add it to the board. The RSS link on the main page returns the 10 most recent posts on the General Weather forum.

Weather Blogs Forum
I've decided to move the daily observation topics into a separate "blogs" forum. This stops them being "bumped" in the General forum.

Bumping
This is where someone posts to a very old topic and it gets "bumped" onto the front page again (aka thread gravedigging). It's something I find very irritating and will not be tolerated in future.

In other words, you shouldn't normally post to a topic that started more than a couple of weeks ago unless it's a blog.

Signatures
If you must have a signature, try to keep the height to a minimum and it should be no wider than about 600 pixels - that also applies to images embedded in the message using "img".

Emoticons
Using lots of these in a message or signature can be very annoying especially when they're animated. I might remove some or all of these and/or edit excessive user signatures.

Moderators
I don't have the time to maintain and moderate the forum so I might be looking for additional moderators in the near future.

Cheers
Steven

I've beeen wondering whether it might be a good idea to have a forum for discussing historical weather events , as many people may have strong personal memories of such events. Could be especially interesting when current weather is 'boring'.

A good idea tich. It's interesting to compare memories with actual records.
