The Twister Sisters are a a couple of sisters who run there own chasing company on the plains in the midwest. This doco follows them thru a stprmchasing season.
There website is here: http://www.twistersisters.com/
It screened in the US in March of this year.

Filmed by the National Geographic so should be quite good viewing.

Some excellent video in there. Liked the video of the tornado forming on the side of the road just in front of the T Sisters.

Liked the footage of the hail storm. Reminded me a bit of my experience with a hail storm in Texas, actually not a lot of fun, quite scary.

How come whenever you see those storm chasers watching and filming they never seem to be worried about being struck by lightning?
You hear the booms going on around them and they don't even flinch.
The booms of thunder seemed to be genuine unlike previous programmes where they are added in by nerdy sound effect dork type people.
Like on car chase programmes where you see footage of a chase from a helicopter and then the car crashes and there is a fake crash sound because there are no microphones down where the car crashes, corney!.

I heard on the radio that the quakes arn't deep enough to signal any activity in the Auckland Volcanic field.

9km not deep enough?
Thats what I heard someone say on NewstalkZB.

I suppose rising molten magma would be one way of controlling house price inflation in Auckland. Likely more effective than rising interest rates. 8-[

You would think the next volcanic eruption in NZ will be White Island.
But who knows. :|

I'm no expert, but from what I've been told...

White Island is pretty well carrying on as they would expect. There is some risk from one of the crater walls collapsing which is why they altered the guided tours a little while back, but otherwise all is good over there. It's like a pressure release valve on a pressure cooker, only worry about it when it goes quiet.

Interestingly enough they have been establishing Tsunami warning sirens in the Western Bay of Plenty... Maybe there is something they aren't telling us?

There are a few volcano's in NZ that are overdue for some action, those are the ones I'd be worried about if I were to worry (but we have no indicators saying we should be worried). They build up pressure over a long period of time then spring into life. A suitably sized earthquake could precede an eruption event at one of those sites.

Yes, I beleive the greater Auckland area is due for something to happen. How soon, how big an event and how much warning there will be is anyones guess.

Taranaki is probably the biggest risk area currently from what I was told recently.

I seem to recall Mount Tauhara, North East of Taupo is the potentially most dangerous volcano, but also very unlikely to do anything in the next couple of thousand years.

It would be interesting to see if we have any experts on the subject lurking in the forum.

When did Rangitoto form... 1200?

But yes, Taranaki is due for an eruption, you don't need to be a seismotologist to work that one out, as there is an even clear correlation in eruption dates.

Mt Tarawera, 10 June 1886 was one super eruption... would like to see something of that magnitude in my life. I remember being at the Chateau in 1996 and the amount of ash dumped on our cars was phenomenal.

And eruptions also relate well to the weather once the atmosphere is unstable enough. Some awesome electrical discharges from ashstorms were photographed then :P

The Volcanic Plateau region, especially the Okataina volcanic centre is remarkable

As for the 'what ifs' of Lake Taupo (caldera) erupting.. this certainly means YIKES for the Waikato region
