Cool photos Steve That T/Cu is impressive!
As for tomorrow! heavy squally thundery showers developing for the North Island as we have a very nice jetstream aloft, quite a bit of horizontal shear, I think? Some lower level vertical shear though, with gusty northwesterlies at surface, westerly change around 3pm. Dewpoints will be down on today across the troposphere, but convection up, maybe not lifted indicies however. Looks very good though with those strong westerlies in the jetstream, flying over the upper North Island

Travelling from Chch to Akaroa btween about 5.30 and 6.45pm, I noticed the ground still wet from the Little River area onwards. With dark cloud still dominant to the east and northeast from Hilltop, I guess a heavy shower had been through probably no more than an hour before. S'ferics were still audible on the radio at this time.

Sferics coming through very clearly, even interrupting the clear ZB frequency! I'm counting up to 15 a minute. All trackers indicating these are two very active cells... and they're due here!
Need sleep but I just can't sleep!

Apparently there were 3 tornadoes, of small size in Southland. Can anyone confirm this?
Big thunderstorms booming in Taranaki-Wellington region this morning ... and now Wanganui and Kaikoura
I don't think anywhere in the Taranaki missed out on thunder today
Cell moving NE'wards, this can't fizzle out!!
Ricky's tracker peaking at 22 strikes/min
Will eagerly await any action, showering now, 20c, dewpoint 15c

Thunderstorms didn't come to much here in Lower Hutt, just some heavy rain and a few lightning flashes (mostly cloud to cloud I think).
There's a story on Stuff about the tornadoes and hail in Southland yesterday....

rain radar shows BLACK in one cell to the NW of north taranaki!!
i wonder if the cb's will keep forming on the front further north as the days go on, then will will get some action up this way...i dont think so.....the cb cells are traveling ESE down the front line....you might just get the top edge foggy....

Id say watch out for Tornadoes especailly Waikato Foggy and i believe Auckland could be in for a big storm this afternoon go superstorm and make sure ya get lots pics and vids.
According to a news report a building was ripped from its foundations even bricks in Southland after one of the tornadoes ripped across an open feild. And wire from a fence was found speared into the ground atleast a ruler deep.
Cheers
JASON.

Temperature now 24.4 here and DP 16 the longer this sun is out the better I think Amazing cloud formations and fast changes here today with the strong upper winds!
Very tempted to head out south but I think I'll stay put for any action here...!
I see a new fire up in the waikato now with very large strike numbers..
exciting stuff!
