Shaping up to be quite hot and thundery indeed tomorrow! Especially Hawke's Bay to Gisborne with hot northwesterlies (low 30's), a sea breeze developing and very unstable conditions aloft will mean extreme convection are on the cards from Central Plateau to Hawke's Bay.
Thunderstorms could pop up anywhere from Cape Reinga, East Cape to Cape Palliser and Marlborough during the day. Northwest winds will mean the Auckland-Waikato-BoP region will be in first with the thundery weather.
Storms then ease and heavy rain takes over by evening.
More storms it looks by Sunday.
Chances of further thunderstorms for Taranaki today
MetService havnt updated their Convection outlooks yet so I wonder what they think?
MetService don't have much risks out for Hawke's Bay, so who knows. With humidity this high we should be in for a few deluges today, but only if this front stops stalling.
Ricky's boltek has a scattering of storms out to sea, Western AK
Yes it has gone very unstable in the sky now dark towering CU and visable CBS from right to left Thunderstorm soon id think here's hoping light shower of rain at present.
Cheers
Jason.
I think you may be on the mark there Foggy, Temp over 30's, dew point has come up though the day and now the sea breeze has kicked in helping matters. Would not be supprised if we have an evening storm.
No thunder heard here but some impressive build ups and great pics to show off later.
Also biggest rain drops I have ever seen the size of 10 cent pieces yeharrr.
Not sure wats gonna happen yet been lots strikes on tracker near Elesmere and around 5pm when I turned on radio seferics non stop for 10 minutes at least.
Report again later hopefully with a storm.
Cheers

Probably thundering and hailing somewhere about Cheviot (far North Canterbury) at 4pm - radar shows purple blob.
Clouds built up around Chch this morning, but I went to a movie just before noon, and when I left the fantasy world (Narnia) and walked back outside, the sun was still shining, though alot of cloud around. No raindrops that I noticed in the city, though I was inside for about 2 hours around midday.
Is the tracker playing up again bcoz its ranging strikes in a line again although having saying that there is a convergence line visable on WZ sattelite.
An area of lower cloud came over before we have had this happen many times before in these situations but has cleared again now more sunshine and Towering CU to SW also some Turkey towers farr north probly the Cheviot storm Tich.
Cheers
Jason.
Well no storms in the end but ohh well still atleast something came out of today bit of surprise as of late afternoon I was thinking things looked grim stormwise.
Well here's some of todays bets pics few CU and Mamatus this morning.
Cheers
Jason.

Saw two Cg's yesterday and one bit of sheet lightning so not a heck of alot taken in from the day, managed to get one of the Cg's on video while up at the hill top before going over into Akaroa with Steven Graham. The first Cg me and Steven saw just before Little River was really bright but wasn't recording at that stage unfortunately.
The air was also quite hazy with alot of moisture in the air.
Cheers

Did well Aaron to get one of the Cg's on Video, looks great.
Road in to Akoroa is slow, would be a hard area to chase storms.
I've redone it a little (tone curve etc) to make the image better and more saturated (I guess?) however it introduces a bit more noise into the picture.
I think the best way to get better stills than a MiniDv camera that does 576 x 720 is to go to HD video camera. There are consumer cams coming out now and will be the best way to achieve better stills. Like below:
Dang...that page/site only works if you're still using Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. They must get around three hits per week now that most sensible people are using Firefox or Opera.

I was actually using firefox at the time when getting that link, perhpas firefox won't actually go to where that link is pointing though if you put it in the URL box thingy?
Just click on Digital Video Camera and two HD cams pop up on the first page.
