27C in auckland with that 19oc, whew thats a start to summer with a bang
not that hot here (the city gets good heating from land in a nwer compared to use here)
there was some good towering going on over the city isthmus this arvo, and one got to a good enough to give rain...amybe more out eastern beach way?
some big ones went up to the SE of the hunuas alright!...anyone get a photo?...was at the beach...no camera...
it got to 27 at bryndrwyn too,,,,and the wind there went easterly, so that was a sea breeze convergence in northland giving those showers
this low has not done much all day...maybe tomorrow will be no different to today...instead of the forecasted widespread rain?

Looks to be a Thunderstorm entering Auckland now accoring to tracker up to 800 strikes up there a cell or several near Northland and then the one near Waikato,Coromandel.
If those two join together could make an impressive storm .
Low cruddy cloud here now temp back to 15C now hardly a breath of wind.
Cheers
Jason.

Watched this cloud build from Cu just south of Auckland this afternoon, could hear distant thunder rumbles from it as it turned Cb.Spwill and I went for a drive this afternoon and watched some thundery cb's buildup along that line from Hunua through to Hauraki.

Missed an absolute pearler of a photo this evening, sun setting upon towering Cj/and Cb next to it
Thought we'd see a bit more rain today, but it sure looks tomorrow will deliver, Tasman is very active once again.
Sky mostly clear now, 18.6c, calm, baro on the incline
Cheers, great photos Zanman & spwill!

I was unconvinced yesterday that we would get rain today, and that hunch has been borne out. A blocking high just east of the NI has done a good job at making a mockery of Met Service forecasts for rain for Auckland last few days.
Will see less surface heating in the north today so that may limit the amount of afternoon shower activity. Should still see Isolated thunderstorms develop over the upper half of the NI.
Photo here of a cuform over Hunua/south Auckland yesterday. Heard thunder from this cloud about time of photo.

the NE wind means the low to the NW has deepened a bit, but also means the high has ridged back over the SI I guess
yes, i mad a sceptical post yeterday about rain today that was forecasted....and still is...
but there is heavy rain way to the NW associated with that low....what needs to happen I guess is for a trough area to build right over us....i.e the upper atmosphere needs to cool down ...which could happen if the low to the Nw of us starts to wind up more
i see the met service have down grounded the rain for today forecast:
but, now thats its not forecast, whats the bet widespread rain develops now...all that is needed is for general instability to develop...alll the ingredients are there...

they need to look out the window more and not at the models so much?Cloudy with showers, some heavy in the afternoon and evening.

It looks like there is a good chance of at least some of the rain in the BOP that we have been forcasted. The SE movement with land breezes from the same direction really bring in the warm damp air for conditions such as we have at the moment.
Foggy, what is actually happening in the Waikato at the moment? My mother in law is due to fly out of Hamilton about 3:30 for Sydney this afternoon.
