Chances are looking good for many areas around New Zealand on both days especially with the weakoning of the anticyclone :)

Been a while since I posted :P between 8.30 and 9pm we had a considerable dumping of rain. Instant flooding etc.. not good for me as I work for Pizza Hut delivering pizza and I couldnt get to my customers :P We've been having lightning since then, no thunder however.

Yes Brian, looks like your rain will arrive! :D

Big northerly rainband bearing down onto Auckland now, then Waikato soon :)
Has dumped 45mm in the 3hours to 10pm in the Bay of Islands!!!

35mm up at brynderwyn....
but the tail only just brushed us before moving east, so only 2mm here, arggh!
but i see a 2nd line developing out the west...we should get that one

it was exactly the sort of rain band i was hoping and expecting to develop....

That "2nd" may not get here untill tonight.

Will we get any afternoon convection around Auckland today? A few cb's may pop up in the west of Auckland but I am thinking tomorrow looks a better day for thunder risk.

i can see the other cb line in breaks in the cloud out to west...not quite anvil tops yet
wind is a bit less today, and more northerly,so yes, could be big showers could develop over the waitaks today :)
tomorrow yes could be even more promising :)

i think things are looking promising for big CB in this area this afternoon, if that cloud out to the east moves away a bit more
lots of moisture, billowing occuring already with not alot of heating yet

i can feel it in my bones today is going to be a good day....maybe we should meet up this arvo for a chase?

Yes but gusty NE wind and high cloud will probably spoil again, see what the afternoon brings.

been enough build up already to give skify showers on the hills around the area in the last 30 minutes
so just need more heating from the sun...the instability is there!!
you are right about the wind being strong again....but its more only at the surface layer...some there is some shear...which might help...and the upper winds are a bit more NNE , surface NE

Only looks as if the Coromandel Peninsular/W BoP will get the flooding rain now, unless that band continues to grow?
That heap sure is intense, large-scale convection

its actualy moved east of the coromandel now....so the heavy rain warning was just a nowcast warning....
