Long way ahead but...

Christmas Day might not bring the sunny hot weather that everyone is hoping for, with MetService forecasting a windy and slightly overcast day.
Weather Ambassador Bob McDavitt says there is still a possibility this will change. He says the further east in the country you go, the better the weather should be.
Not easy to predict 8 days ahead, but one thing is likely - the humid northerly and northeasterly weather that we've had so far appears to be nearing an end. Cooler west or southwest flows should soon become dominant. Should still be rather unsettled at times, but a lot less sticky.

Talk about a dollar each way. Of course it can change in eight days though a cooler less sticky week before xmas would be very welcome with so much to do.

:)

that model shows a ridge coming in, so spring like pattern, SW winds easing
some brief showers in werstern areas but lots of fine weather too i would say
time will tell!

Perhaps pre frontal weather Xmas day.
At this time of the year that means warm with increasing cloud, risk of showers/rain in the west.

In a nut shell, boring spring weather.

I'm almost wishing we could fast-forward to Autumn. From then through to Spring it's usually very settled, with the bonus of long clear nights.

BlueSkies have it warm and sunny on Christmas Day. :)
Looks like an anticyclone, though weak, will cover the country with an impending NW flow developing.
I don't know about MetService saying it being "slightly overcast" :?
Next thing they'll say is that frost only occurs in 'sheltered areas' ;)

It's much better if the weather is settled.

Here in Melbourne we are expecting some of the crappiest weather in a while for the Christmas weekend. So it will be yet another cold and cloudy Christmas here. GFS 850hPA temps will be a mere 0-2c with a massive south westerly flow and with it cold winds and rain. Don;t be surprised if the patrons at Carols by Candlelight on Saturday night end up being dressed up like their northern hemisphere counterparts  how embarrasing!
