There is a big cloud burst over central Auckland now. Just come from Remuera where the rain is very heavy. Looks to be a cb over the area on a sea breeze convergence zone. A lot of surface water. :)

The NZWP290000Z sounding suggests cu tops of 3000 to 4000m are producing todays showers. A bigger cb could be possible but considering the upper air is only going to get warmer today, this looks unlikely.

After a period of light showers early afternoon around Papakura, the skies cleared from the west. Made for a fantastic sunset :)

Mission Bay recorded 35mm between 7pm and 8pm. (Wednesday 28th)

I could see the cb from my place but never went to investigate as there was no thunderstorm activity associated with the deluge.

Yes, nice sunset there Area51.

Took this pic of the Cb from my place at 9pm, looks like it had weakened. It was mostly obscured by low cloud prior to that.
I think Ricki's tracker was picking up a few weak strikes from it as there was no other Cb out to our east at the time.
