Small hail here last night around 6pm. Cold over night, averaging about 6C. Nice day here... will be nicer with a thunderstorm.

I see dew points in Chch are below 2C this morn (Fohn air in the mix) so you will need the NE breeze today to bring some moisture in.

Wouldnt worry to much about them at the moment, NE will pick up.
Looking good for later today. Il be heading out later, I think around Ashbourtan looks to be the best area for large hail etc

Yes dewpoints are low (too low), I hope this NW dies out later today as I'm thinking it should so the SW has something to bite in to.

Here's a few pics yesterday of the Timaru storm as it moved up the coast. First shot is going across the Rakaia River looking at the Cb over Timaru I guess? You would've been near it at the time NZstorm (check your PM's)!

Second shots are the now weak Cb as it moved up the coast, it did look to have alot of precip or hail coming out of it.

(Yes I've put the pics in the wrong order!)

Cheers

The Rakaia radar would have been set to turn off should anything interesting happen.

hmmmmm..
Overcast As here with 20c and a northwesterly, baro on the decline now.

Metservice have put out a moderate risk, so hopefully these hailstorms around Westport at the moment do arrive, but i'm weary about this cloud in the jet up here..

Yes, a westerly flow across Canterbury at the moment with low dp's. Just some weak convection giving Isolated light showers over the region at the moment.

Good to see you were chasing that Timaru storm Aaron. It sprang up real quick but lasted a couple of hrs over the region. Cut power to areas south of Timaru.

Something growing...

From my vantage at work (Addington in CHCH) something "dark and ominous" appears to be trying to grow off to the west and south....not overly fast, however, but darkening the sky, for sure...you can see the precip falling as well...kinda cool....

I'll agree to that It's blowing up like a midwest Turkey Tower in Christchurch I wait in anticipation.

Also as a sideline (Sorry probably off topic) if anyone gets offered any TV camera equipment cheap in a pub......Not that that would probably happen I have had about $60,000 worth nicked out of a staff members car in ChCh. (Yes 60K it was not a typo) Not insured........ camera should have been inside. Policy does not cover "left in car overnight" boohoo

Regards

Yes was southerly here too but turning more SE now and the clouds are now just sitting there going nowhere.
Only few spits here so farr looks to be more precipitation further south.
Remember the proper change hasnt come through yet so any ground moisture is welcome looks like this southerly has stopped not too much now so expect a NE will develope with the fresh moisture falling at sea.
Cheers
Jason.
