From the JTWC....

Predicted strengthening up to 90 knots!! :shock: Category 2? Forecast still has it shifting to the S and then SSE...AWAY from NZ, which is a GOOD thing, guys :) ... I sometimes get the impression from posts here that you guys actually WANT one to come this way?!?!

I have been through enough cyclones/hurricanes in my life to know they are really neat to watch from afar...stay over the water, make some big waves for the surfers...but PLEASE don't hit land...people get hurt and die from them. Fascinating beasts to watch and track, yes. Desirable, no.

It also gets innocent people killed or injured, and lives ruined by loss. Hope its not your family eh Jason, best if that happens to someone else :lol: :roll:

Of coarse we need cyclones, Auckland and Northland really needs the rain ;)

There's always positive and negative impacts with cyclones..

Just look at america, their homeland security sector is being pushed and tested greatly. They failed though when Katrina hit. The cyclones are NOT good at all for developing islands, like Jamaica, West Indies, Tonga etc.

But yes, please bring them on.. they weaken too much as they become extra-tropical down here anyway. I really wanna see something comparing to the cyclone of February '36

That's because HS was created to control the US population, not protect it.

Bah i'm getting mixed up with FEMA!

I see now, Homeland security: "A federal agency whose primary mission is to help prevent, protect against, and respond to acts of terrorism on United States soil."

Bush -> Anti-K.P. -> global warming -> Katrina -> terrorism?

That's a pretty left-winged view however..

Cheers for that! At that speed it's not going to get here soon...how long is it predicted to last before blowing itself out? Will it get near enough to us before then to cause Northland any discomfort?

Heh.

Cloud creeping in from the south and south west right now. The humidity is high too, but the air is cool, so I should sleep okay tonight! :)
