Chilly 14 here, too. Rainfall up to 14mm, but really hasn't been heavy most of the time. There are some stronger north easterly gusts too.

Chilly night in Chch too - down to only 2C, even though partly cloudy. Northeasterly starting to freshen; cloudy though sun is now shining weakly.

what looks like will happen is a new low to form to the SW of the original low center, and then both low centers will rotate around each other....
the front over the upper north island will then become slow moving.....and rain amounts could get high

Met Service have not handled this weather pattern thus far
yes, sometimes I think they need to stop looking at the computer models and look out the window....yesterdays sky was a classic sky meaning rain in 24 hours or less, LOL

this had good speed, and its takes a bit to stop it

all the ducks were lined up for the NI to get this:
coral sea starting point
good speed once started heading SE
3rd duck?

Rain arrived here about 6am and has been steady (but not heavy) since. Has now stopped raining completely, and barely a breath of wind. Strange, as we normally cop it from the Easterly quarter.

It stopped raining here for a while, but started again about half an hour ago. North easterlies are now very gusty and barometer has dropped from 1017 to 1012.

So where's she going to 'attack'?

Tomorrow night could get interesting as she loops around.. could be some persistant heavy falls on the way for Taranaki..

Off to Wellington tomorrow.. showery with southerly gales on the way.. Tues/Wed. What on earth are 'gales'???? :D

Whenever they tell us something the opposite occurs ie there was no threat on Wed-thurs from Wati,
As far as the cold we are just south of the warm front, must be warmer near Kaitaia

Actually got to 0C on the airport metars. That must be close to the all time record low temp for March.

The 2C was recorded at Jeff's suburban Hillmorton station. The Airport is quite often colder, being a bit further away from the sea and probably outside the city's heat island effect.
Stayed chilly all day in Chch with cloud cover, and we had a little drizzle just before 6pm. Should be wetter tomorrow and Tuesday, but probably more drizzly rain than heavy falls likely as the ex cyclone looks like it'll be weaker than earlier predicted.

Heavy rain starting to fall here already  comes in small belts though still not bad considering if any heavy rain would happen should be tomorrow night.
Cheers

I got down to 4.5C here, coolest so far this year.
My Stephenson's Screen is under trees here at Somerfield here in a temporary postion before the shift to West Melton so minimum temps could be a bit warmer as if it was in a more open area like it was in before.

Well our tropical air is back - 20 degrees at 6 am, 78% humidity. Some rain overnight, but this morning no wind, no rain and I can see some blue sky. Barometer still dropping slowly.

So, experts, what should I expect today?

27mm for the city so that will get the grass growing.

Looks like we will get a little sunshine and some showers today, humid :D with dewpoints of 19C so the showers will be on the heavy side.
