Yes, MetService say weak Tornado's are possible if Thunderstorms develop this afternoon.

the rain radar does not show anything very specatular with that next front....which as it rolls onto thge auckland area might stick around for a bit
there is alot of pre frontal cloud thats stopping the heating of the ground any more....
so far this TC has bene disapointing....so far....
average windspeed increasing all the time here.....now constant 20 to 30 knots all time time......at this rate of increase we will have a Gale here in a few more hours time

Rain started about 15 minutes ago - steady, not heavy. Wind today has shifted to the north, was brisk but has dropped since the rain started. Barometer still dropping - now 997. Still warm and very humid.

Coatesville, which is near Albany on the North Shore. Not an expert, but our 2 barometers are now reading 995 and 996 respectively. Maybe they are both wrong!?

Looks like a developing band out there alright.

Actually got to 0C on the airport metars. That must be close to the all time record low temp for March.
According to the chch Airport obs for yesterday (in today's Press), the 0C minimum was 10C below the March normal minimum, and the 14C max was 6C below normal!
Alot less rain today than predicted - only light falls in morning, and nothing (in central city) this afternoon. In fact the sun came out for a short period early afternoon.

Looking at my records, I recorded 1.2C on the 30th March 2001 at 06:40. Not sure what the airport temperature might have been then.

The historical data on wunderground shows a minimum at the airport of 3°C.
My own records only start from the end of 2001 but yesterday was the coldest March temp I've recorded at 1.1°C here. Next coldest was 1.7°C on 25th March 2004 which also got down to 0°C at the airport.

you can see the shower lines curving around the low center nicely on the rain radar now out to the west of the upper NI
