I think Canterbury will probably get easterly rain Monday and/or Tuesday, then southerly showers. Ideal situation for inland snow in winter, but possibly too early now.I was looking just at MSLP maps I dunno but another good pool of air returns on Wednesday to Canterbury and with the winds being SE would there be snow up in Aurthurs pass etc to atleast 600m? It looks quite simular to times like last year when snow forms from SE windflows and or heavy rainfalls or would that happen more in the winter Tich?.

Track looks interesting.. UKMO & the MetService has it weakening at the moment.. but as soon as it hits the North Tasman she should start re-intensifying before she stalls momentarily. After that, there are a number of possibilities as to where she heads.. and most importantly who's going to be dumped on??
Rain and fresh gusty easterlies already effecting Northland.. and should be very persistant looking at satellite.
Looks like there could be some thunderstorms embedded too.
SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR AUCKLAND COROMANDEL PENINSULA
ISSUED BY METSERVICE AT 2018hrs 25-Mar-2006
HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE FOR AUCKLAND AND COROMANDEL PENINSULA
Forecasters are monitoring the progress of ex Tropical Cyclone Wati
as it moves southeastwards into the north Tasman Sea. The remnants of
Wati are expected to slow down while moving into the area west of the
North Island later Sunday. This system, while no longer a tropical
cyclone, should remain as a fairly deep depression, and is expected
to bring a prolonged period of moist north or northeast winds to the
North Island.
At this stage it is uncertain how much rain will fall in Auckland and
Coromandel Peninsula. However, some heavy falls could start to turn
up in these areas as early as midday Sunday.
Residents and travellers in Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula should
prepare for a prolonged period of rain, and remain up to date with
the latest forecasts.
This Watch will be reviewed by 11am Sunday 26th March

WOW that has come down well overnight.. Persistant severe easterly gales overnight for Cape Reinga.. Strong and gusty for Whangaparoa too.
Should be pretty cold here today being pre-frontal and still trapped under thick high cloud (18c here today)
Headlines read: "Windies set to resume on 50/1." Sorry folks!
Today should be the windiest day for the upper North with widespread easterly gales.

I'm going to drive the l-o-n-g way around to avoid it - lucky the roadworks are at one end of the road only. I just washed the car last night... since the neighbors had their place had their place topdressed last weekend my car has been covered in baked-on superphosphateagingaquarian wrote:Steady rain here, 8mm since about 6 am. Easterlies a bit gusty, but nothing dramatic.
How's the road, Graeme?
