Boring Weather except Auckland area
I think I had a thread on boring weather a while ago.
Anyway, it looks boring here in Canterbury with no rain, ie southerly changes to well into next week although ECMWF has a bit of a hint of something this coming WE.
A wee bit of rain over here on the East will do well at the moment.
Will it be a dry winter?
Are we going into an anticyclonic period?
The SOI is showing a trend to an La Nina period. Will this last?
Will June be very wet?

I agree John boring but interesting atleast its warm this week could be a build up to some rough weather on the horizon somewhere who knows.
Cheers
Jason.

Re: Boring Weather #2
Already the locals have been saying the same tired old crap they spout every 12 months or so: "she's going to be a long, hard winter this year!"...but every time they're wrong, and I don't see why they'd be right now either.Flutterbye wrote:Some snow would be good this winter
Almost enough to make one believe in global warming, huh?

hmmmm...
SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR BAY OF PLENTY
ISSUED BY METSERVICE AT 2041hrs 17-Apr-2006
SHORT PERIOD OF HEAVY THUNDERY DOWNPOURS FOR THE BAY OF PLENTY
MetService expects a narrow frontal rainband to cross the Bay of
Plenty during Tuesday afternoon and evening. The rainband is
preceded by a moderate strong northerly flow. There could be 6 to 9
hours of heavy thundery rain in some places with amounts getting
close to the warning criteria of 50mm in 6 hours or 60mm in 9 hours.
This is especially likely over the eastern Bay of Plenty area as the
front may slow down during Tuesday evening. However, currently there
is not enough certainty to issue a full warning.
Forecasters will continue to watch the situation, and warnings will
be issued during Tuesday morning if required.
People in the Bay of Plenty should keep up to date with the latest
forecasts.
This Watch will be reviewed by 9am Tuesday 18 March 2006
Forecast prepared by: Allister Gorman

One cold spell or a relatively cold month and they start up with that...Gary Roberts wrote:Already the locals have been saying the same tired old crap they spout every 12 months or so: "she's going to be a long, hard winter this year!"...but every time they're wrong, and I don't see why they'd be right now either.Flutterbye wrote:Some snow would be good this winter

Looks like it has been pretty heavy SW of here in Taharoa.. hopefully that line of rain offshore will squash up into here. Just moderate falls here.. should yes, see afternoon heavy showers around the regions.NZstorm wrote:Some unstable air crossing the North Island today. Not much in the way of low level forcing today but the weak front will bring a heavy shower or two.
Daytime heating/low level convergence should trigger isolated thunderstorms in the Bay of Plenty/Toupo regions later today.

Yes and the High slowed the Front up, 26mm at Greylynn in about 2 hours.considering a 1021 hpa barometer, it was still an active front despite pushing into a high pressure area....but there was a good moisture feed from the north
I see 100mm at Greylynn for April so far.
Could be more heavy rain early next week.
