two strikes in the last 20 mins. The first was a deep boom, the second a little louder as the storm had passed.
A bright flash and a loud bang about 6am, woke me up.
Shower cloud about this morn.

Read the NIWA (or Fencepost's) autumn outlooks - more detail on the reduced westerly/enhanced easterly flow.

lots of beefy Cbs around the city at the moment. Small amount of mammatus observed from Auckland University Library.(they have left the windows open as well, not very pleasant!) Looks like some more significant storms north of here.
Hail in the works for today? Its cold enough. lol

yes a lot of activity aloft this morning, this afternoon looks to be very interesting. Will not be surprised to see predicted hail arrive with squally thunderstorms in the AK region

Very wintry by Jaffaland standards in the AK CBD now. 10 degrees outside and frequent rain showers, several towering glaciated CB's observed. Very little wind so I suspect localised downpours could cause some surface flooding today on this already waterlogged region

Air today is cold and dry for Auckland so I would say only a low chance for Thunder.
Over 50mm here since Monday with Cb clouds to cross the area this afternoon.

Nothing for us in the way of thunderstorms yet up here in the north, it's really cold tho, and it's starting to rain.

Must be very cold up there!.. the midday sounding will be interesting..
Good signature for nearby weak lightning at about 12:20pm not much else on the detector here...
I have to visit skytower transmitter levels to check on some gear.. so that would be a good time for some lightning

Some local Thunder with the Front around 6am, any other Thunder reports Razor.
Have seen active Cb out to our East but too far away for Thunder over Ak

Sure is a Cb playground out there today!
Recent heavy shower, dropped the temp from 17.0c to 11.8c.
As spwill says, the air is too dry for further thunder.

Been a bit of lightning down our way Foggy I think.. maybe more over the Kaimais with some uplift getting things going there?
Sounding shows things to be quite unstable with -25C by 500 but yeah not quite enough moisture to feed anything much
