This week Storm Possiblities

Unread post by 03Stormchaser »

Just had a quick look at the models and looks like the best chance of Thunder to be heard over Canterbury of late may pull off on Thursday. With a strong southerly change coming thru about midday. Although any thunderstorm would be quite coastal.

I havent looked at anyother part of the country for the week other than thursday also looks good for Northland/Auckland.

I might add a Canterbury thunderstorm is definitly not a certain thing yet!! :)

Does this mean there is a possibility of a Southerly blast on Friday/Saturday in the North?

I have a habit of heading down to the Mountain for the first Southerly blast on a weekend each year.

Naaaaaaaaaaa. [-(
I can't see anything likely of Canterbury thunderstorms evolving this week. :(
Looks like everything unstable will head to it's old haunting grounds around the Auckland/Waikato/Coromandel areas, at this stage :(
It will become colder tho', later, with some snow on the mountains. Good for the lakes. :)

Western areas of the SI and SW parts of the NI look to have the best chance of storms this week.
Storms in the east of the SI would be very isolated, air too dry and cool.

Some rain overnight, but that has eased to light drizzle now, cold on 11c

Primary front is thundery west of Northland, should see a mix of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow, especially morning along the showery change with westerlies. MetService have this as a 'low' risk, i'd be going for a 'high' risk most certainly :)

7/8ths cloud cover Cameo.

Just had a 15 minute cloudburst here (Grafton). Very heavy, heaviest I've seen in ages.

I heard lots of reports of a waterspout along the Auckland city harbourfront with that passing cloudburst..

Here's how it looked from here... that cloud had a lot of height!
