It was a bust on the central Pateau today. Made it up to the summit of the desert road at about 10.30am in anticipation of a white out and road closure. Within 20 minutes I could see the line of blue sky arriving and never saw any snow falling. There had been some snow on the desert road earlier, but nowhere near enough to close it.

Mount Ruapehu only saw snow down to about 1700m in any quantity and even then it was sparse.

Only real excitement of the day was watching 2 fire & 1 police vehicle slip sliding on the ice trying to get up to Turoa.

Thought that temperture was for Canterbury?? so that is has already gone below 0C it would then be an inaccurate forecast. I think fencepost need to have coastal and inland forcasting!!

A bit harsh Steve, does a forecast temperature have to be spot on or be "inaccurate"? How about a bit of lee-way?

Low in Omarama was -2.6°C at 08:59 and Lake Ohau was -2.7°C at 09:04, so nothing amazing. A minor frost under some very high Cirrus. Beautiful day.

Similar on Banks Peninsula - got frosty during the night, but some cloud moved in later and was above freezing by dawn.

May see another low just like the one we had, this time next week.

Jack sure will be back tonight doing his thing! Nose and ears starting to suffer I must admit.

Yes, thats the one I mentioned on my other posting which should see a colder snap over NZ if the anticyclone behind it hangs in there :)

Much milder as of right now - lovely day here, sat. image very similar to yesterday afternoon's apart from the addition of some cloud on the West Coast and scattered stuff in the west from Taranaki north (including the Michael zone?- can't really tell)
