...But no gales there!

Hasn't got past 8.2c here today... That's very cold.. usually a cold max temp here like that would have to be in mid-July blanketed under all day fog! :-k

Can you see Mt Pirongia?

Passing (mostly light) showers continuing in Chch with southerly freshening at times, and temperature only about 5C. Cloud has been covering the higher Port Hills.

There was a wintry Friday morning back in 1994(?) where it never got above 0° in downtown Auckland until well after lunchtime. A very foggy day. I don't know if you or anybody else remembers that? That was the coldest day in Auckland I experienced since my youth.

Very cold start to the day here.
Light snow overnight on the hills then a hard frost.
Those that drove in this morning had an interesting time.
I suspect a panel beaters dream day.
Now sunny but cold 8deg.
Berkshire North of Te Anau west of Hokitika.

Yeah, no snow there..

For snow to happen there you need one big cold outbreak (e.g Sep 19/20 2005) for it to settle there.

There are the most amazing looking clouds to the west of Auk. They look like the side of a hail storm looks, its an almost yellowish ting to the bottom of the cloud also. Verticle and long wisps.
