Saw that cloud myself, not too far away from where i was. It looked like precipitation coming out of the cloud, but there was no precipitation, just a strange looking cloud

Yeah, no snow there..

For snow to happen there you need one big cold outbreak (e.g Sep 19/20 2005) for it to settle there.
It feels like a pretty cold outbreak over NZ at the moment. Anyway, there are reports of snow this afternoon only 5 minutes drive from Taupo on the Napier-Taupo Highway, and on Mt Tarawera. (which got coated on Sunday morning as well, according to Rotorua Daily Post)

Truck drivers reported snow to 450m on the Kaimai's & Mamaku's this afternoon. Lowest I can recall in about 25 years.

When are our high pressure cells inclinating?? GASP has been the only model that's been keeping to it's word in my opinion.. has been a real winner of late!

EC very slow to develop warmer northeasterlies over NZ by next Tuesday.

Rwood has been on the ball this year predicting that wet April wasn't it?? NIWA should be employing this guy who does know what's ahead!! ;)

looks like a jet stream induced easterly flow low to form over queensland?
that will help to keep the high to the south which will help to keep directing cold air onto nz....via cold fronts originating deep in the southern ocean ...
someone left the fridge door open to the antartic, and its gona be left open all week!

The high to the south should hopefully maintain itself to be a backbone to the low around the Gisborne area...
... but high pressure over NZ will make this coming event a bit of a disapointment as far as any n more snow goes.
