the sat pic animation does show a band of active showers way to the south moving NNE....which might then move more N into canty....as the low deepens over the NI and the ridge builds to the south of the SI...
if you get that front, then that will cause snow alright....
its that front, showing up now, which is the one to watch!

watching the sat animation, the whole thing is becoming more intense looking, as it moves north into the SI and eastern SI....so this could indeed become another problem snowfall event (snow on top of snow problem), alright!

Edit: can now see we have two threads for this one event??

Omarama is in North Otago, I believe. Isn't the Mackenzie/South Canterbury border with Waitaki/(North) Otago just south of Twizel? ;)
Banana! (My standard answer for something I don't know!) Oh, well, I get to disown you anyway! (As a Crusader!) :D :D :D

Down here the baro is rising while the temp drops and the sky clears...looks like that's all she wrote for now, for us anyway.

We've got a light dusting out here in Lincoln - just enough to make the lawn white and the path slippery! Not quite enough for a snow man but my 3 year old has already managed to sling a couple of snow balls at the side of the house :)

Down here at sea level we've just had rain with tiny bits of hail.

Apparently theres quite a bad frost this morning which is funny as this morning its been raining. Luckily I'm going nowhere as I've stuffed up my knee.

Snow down to about 200metres and a hard frost everywhere else.
The officials are suggesting that people stay off the roads and they do look very very quiet. All the schools are either closed or have a late start.

Apparently snowing in Norsewood and Masterton this morning - looks like a major winter blast for the North Island.
