I don't know if they base the forecast on what's actually happening or what they think we should be getting down this neck of the woods.

The snow cutoff point here is around the Lake Ohau turnoff, about 15km south of Twizel. The snow is blowing in from the NW.

There are many around here who gripe about the snow and the cold, so I ask them why they live here. I guess I haven't been here long enough as a permanent resident to lose the Winter Wonderland thing!

They can forecast showers & SW winds for example but the day can be sunny with little wind - very few times have I seen an amended forecast. ;)

forcasting the weather is a very hard thing to do so i guess they do pretty well even with all of todays technology unforseen things can and do happen from time to time.

There's a certain power station operator who keeps moaning about the innacuracy of my weather stations...he believes 'forecast' means 'now', and no amount of patient explanation convinces him otherwise. So if the station is forecasting rain on a fine day, the station is inaccurate...even if it rains later, as forecast.

So that's where it went!

Haha! Excellent!

MetConnect radar is showing a great big blob of yuckiness just to the south of Christchurch now.
