Unread post by Cameo1 »

Theres a nice Cb to my west doing some pretty interesting things. It was twisting and turning and rolling and getting darker.

picture zoomed right in, so not good quality
just a small funnel, but last a good 3 minutes....and was persistant....was not scud cloud 8)
(its just under the dark base of the inflow area (rain free base))

And the same Cb from Hamilton at midday (The NNW shear is mighty impressive at around 550mb!) :P

Image

Cb looking SW over Pirongia (That thing above the anemometer would otherwise be picking up lightning from it if it were late Spring!)

its pretty hard to see in the photo, (it drops on an angle , to the lower left, out of the left most indraft base) but dang if someone had a camera and they were much closer, it would have looked dam nice :)
there was also a thin verticaly aligned rope cloud just before it appeared, as well, higher up on this side of the cloud
becuase the shape of the funnel persisted for at least 3 minutes, it convinded me it was not scud cloud :)

The upper shear just hit that southwestern Cb photographed but some seaward convection is still trying to fire it up. Some T/Cu firing up above here.. pretty darn good for the winter solstice!! :D

Comparing upper throughs of late.. this one is churning quite slowly
