The North Island's Turn, At Last!

Lots of good Action Weather going on there. Foggy was right, we need more central NI people on the forum. Any of you northerners going in for the 'chase'?

As expected this low is becoming a big weather event for the east and central North Island. All roads are closed in the central NI due to snow.
I notice Geoff Mackley has a report from down that way on his website.

Looks like becoming the worst snowstorm in the central North Island for many years, with it not expected to ease up tomorrow. I've even heard reports that it's started snowing in Taupo. (and Taupo webcam looks like snow or sleet is falling)

I think 'Crikey' is the only appropriate response to that!

Yes Brian, perhaps snowing on top of the Coromandals. Snow level over Auckland would be around 800m mark. How high are the Coromandals?

Temp at Grey Lynn 6.2C and steady rain has set in with gusty Southerly. Awful weather.

Yes, you an see the solid precip (snow) high in our skies this morning.

Overcast/showers with 6C in Ak, very unusual, normally associate those temps with a fine morning.

edit, i see Ricky has temperature of only 5.3oC now after that rain....wow, might be sleet at the top of the sky tower!

Yeah. I agree, pretty unusual. I can swear I am hearing the odd hail stone fall outside. Hey, how high is Rangitoto? Wouldn't that just be a picture, 'Snow on Rangitoto'

The cloud is too high for it to snow now

when they said the hills around wanganui, they meant the farms right next to wanganui...just inland from the city, you could see the snow from the city ;)
raining here now, wind gone more SE, was S...7oC, but might drop with the rain...
could be sleet on the top of the bombay hills falling? (1000 ft)
