Unread post by squid »

more snow on the cards for thursday thoughts??

Thursday
North Island, areas of cloud and showers for most places, but fine spells in the east. South Island, cold and cloudy for most. Showers developing in the east with a southerly change. Snow possible to low levels about Southland, Otago and Canterbury.

No snow to low levels in canterbury. Infact the southerly change looks very weak with little to no rain.

Just read that in the NZ Herald.....another false alarm? I'm not getting excited until my snow man is 1/2 made!

May not look like much in the way of polar air sweeping up from the south, but the air over NZ is probably so cold, that any disturbance could easily bring snow to low levels in the South Island.

there are still rural people in canterbury who still do not have power reconnected, although most should be by the end of this week?
but alot of the problems are now down to old service lines, and farmers are being encoured to in the future install power underground
also, the power companies had lines designed to handle wet sticky snow near the foothills, but not the coast......that is where the most failures have been.....from info i read from fonterra....

Very few are still without power, and mostly at remote stations. Cold, snowy weather is simply a fact of life down here afterall, and people are (or should be) prepared for it.
