No storm, unfortunately against tomorrow's BLAST from the south.
I don't think the barometer will fall enough to allow a stormy weather change. :(
If it does rain, there will be some snow falling here, especially down to below sea-level as I earlier predicted
The weather will clear up quickly to produce some fine days onward from tomorrow night :)
Hot NW on Friday :D

That means nothing.
Warm advection snow is the worst type.
The barometer is dropping a bit it is a bit tooo high for anything major to happen.

looks like tomorrow is going to be the day

Issued by MetService at 08:05pm 03-Jul-2006

SNOW TO LOW LEVELS IN OTAGO AND CANTERBURY TUESDAY MORNING
A cold front sweeping over the South Island tonight and in the
morning is expected to be accompanied by another cold southerly
outbreak which could bring snow to low levels from Southland to the
Kaikoura Coast. Heaviest falls are likely to be in the Canterbury
hills with up to 20cm there above about 500 metres in about 6 hours
and lesser amounts lower down. Some snow may reach sea level for a
time in the morning.
In eastern Otago snow showers may bring 10cm as low as 100 metres in
about 6 hours in the morning with lesser amounts down to near sea
level. The snow should ease to lighter showers later in the day but
strong cold southerlies will continue into Wednesday.

MORE DETAILED INFORMATION FOR EMERGENCY MANAGERS AND TECHNICAL USERS FOLLOWS:

HEAVY SNOW WARNING

AREAS AFFECTED: EASTERN OTAGO, CANTERBURY, KAIKOURA COAST

FORECAST:

CANTERBURY
Rain is expected to turn to snow early Tuesday morning with cold
southerlies developing. In the 6 to 9 hours from about 2am Tuesday
15-20cm of snow is possible above 500 metres in the foothills,
10-15cm is likely above 100m and lesser amounts of snow or sleet are
possible down to sea-level. Snow should then ease to scattered
showers but strong cold southerly winds will continue.

OTAGO
Cold southerlies will spread north overnight. In the six hours from
about midnight Monday 10cm of snow may fall in eastern areas to near
sea-level. Snow should then ease to scattered showers but the strong
cold southerly winds continue.

KAIKOURA COAST
Cold southerlies will spread north Tuesday morning. In 6 to 9 hours
from about 8am Tuesday 10-15cm of snow may accumulate above 300
metres with lesser amounts of snow or sleet to near sea-level. Snow
should then ease to scattered showers but strong cold southerly winds
continue.

MetService sound quite a bit hopeful with today's forecasts of snow in the south.

Giving them the boot after yesterday, missed forecasting the fog event by dawn and then a total failure to even nowcast during the day.

Southerly is just strenthining here now with a little bit of rain falling so nothing white as of yet ;) 8) .
It's 6C out so too warm at the moment for anything but I can see it developing by the 6am radar below some areas of heavyness developing perhaps indicating something.
No temps are below 0C in the south island at the moment either coldest is gore on 3C.
Whats it like in Dunedin this morning. 8)
Cheers
Jason.
