(being away I may have already missed an update for July-Sept season, and I see Fencepost already has one for this period), but here goes:
Unless there is a radical move towards warmer conditions for the next 6-7 weeks, their June-August prediction for temps. looks to be going badly awry - not sure when this last happened. I recall the rainfall predictions for summer 2001-2002 being well off the mark.

Warming rapidly now.. may reach 17°C here tomorrow (HOT!)
But overall I think July will be a bit above average temp-wise.. with above average rainfall in the west.
This upcoming cold change will be critical however.. will it prevail?

Agree the worst of Winter is behind us now.
Temperatures are getting back to normal and look like they will be perhaps above the average into next week.

I doubt we will see such a prolonged period of below average temps like we did in June.

Even though the days are getting longer now, it usually gets colder before it gets hotter, and Winter drags out quite a bit anyway

Yep - I think it's a bit too soon to put the scarf & gloves away yet.

I think NIWA may have expected northerly-quarter anomalies in August to "rebalance" the winter temps. a bit - not a very "hot" prospect at the moment?
