Straight for us? Well it must have missed only 0.4mm of rain here in Swanson overnight. Light showers this morning but rain radar looking like a complete clearance. One big non event here, forecast got us all excited and as usual has left nothing but disappointment for Auckland chasers

What gets me John, is there seems to be this strange lack of cameras in the North Island! :D

sometimes that just the way the cookie crumbles with fronts approaching...they can get weak zones ("holes"), and that is what passed over the auckland area overnight....pretty hard to predict...it could have happened that the best passed through this area and not so good through waikato....
but as spwill says, from the NW, the city is quite a way inlands....
those cb's last night were weakening alot as they moved inland past raglan, away from the relatively warmer tasman sea..,...
but me being on the coast here,we can get some good cb's from the NW....maybe i should get a boltec too...(been worried about neighbours electric fences shorting out though)

I observed a line in the cloud about 5pm yesterday which had Mama's so I'm assuming there was a down draught there. The things you see when you don't have a camera, it was quite an interesting look.

surprising just how much the new low rolled up and over the upper NI
missed us here altogether.....
we might get a few showers with the ESE wind...but otherwise its another rain low we have missed here,....just for interest sake..

Bugger all thunder here but being West Coast we do get a lot more than Chch.

Hope to get down to Canterbury Nov/Dec for a chase. There's more of a propensity for larger size hail down there but the trick is picking the right day. :?

and the rain did arrive here...the front moved back on to us that we got the other day....wrapped back around the new low to the north....as was predicted....a contrast to yesterdays sunny day!

rain radar showed more than a shower.....it was a north/south orientated rain band that brought widespread rain to the nth waikato area and coromandel.....but there was a hole in the rain band, and that hole passed over auckland....but a new shower is hitting south auckland now...heading towards west auckland...

interesting that the ESE wind flow did not increase as the models/forecast had it...no big pressure gradient developed ...to the south of the low...the models had the front pushing into the high....but it did not happen....
