1100Hrs 13/10 Lots of weak and feathery CBs to S and SW from here, Probably over Whangarei district. Currently clear skies here though. One big anvil lumbered past at about 0900 with a nice show of mammatus, but no special effects and no more than a few large drops of rain.

A bust day in the Auckland area. One Tstorm developed early afternoon
out to the SE but moved away toward Coromandal. Overcaste (altostratus) this afternoon with a cool westerly breeze. Barometer still quite low on 998Hpa.

Ditto for Chch. (including the temperature)

I think Chch got quite a bit more rain than neighbouring parts of Canterbury, probably because of the convergence John mentioned. Near Akaroa (where I was) it was wet all yesterday, but it was only drizzling in the morning, and at no stage was the rain heavy. Only precipitation today before this evening's rain was a period of drizzle in the early afternoon.(Akaroa)

we finally got the Southerly wind shift....
with no temperature drop and no rain,,,,,and nothing much to show for it

what was happening was the SE lee trough was creating 45 knot SSE in cook straight, and that pressure wind was then turning back onto us up here as a light westerly.....after the upper level front had already passed over in the late afternoon. (we got some heavy rain...but then the wind stayed in the West)...so we had a claytons (i.e canterbury) wind change
LOL

Yes I did I received 19.6mm from the rain yesterday, a rain gauge I have in halswell was 24mm. I haven't yet checked Bob crowder or his rain-gauge at the Sign of the Kiwi yet.
