Latest GFS is progging 850Ts of -7 on Friday evening and night for Canty, which is cold enough for snow to sea level (assuming there are any showers about still at that time). The coldest part of the main event is on Thursday morning when the precip is stopping, around -5.5 to -6, which would put snow to about 300m.

Is nothing going to happen at sealevel? Or is metservice just playing it safe this time after several wrong forecasts of snow down to sea level earlier? At the moment they say down to 400m

Well who knows Snow lover only time will tell.
I think Potentials are Thursday morning maybe but Friday with the blast of even colder air could see some snow to sea level.
However Could completly take us by surprise in any way  .
Will someone please do a snow dance ;) .
Cheers

Surface barometer pressures are zooming in too quickly also, Tony.
We will get "1030 Scenario" features coming in as well.

I see that Metservice has now issued a heavy snow warning for Canterbury - with snow possible (but not expected to be heavy) down to low levels. It's grey and sporadically raining here in Lincoln, but not very cold (I think about 5 degrees?) Will wait and see....... :)

Certainly a cold wet day here in Chch, but 5C isn't cold enough for snow to very low levels.

It'll come - it should be colder tonight, bringing the snow levels down. But tomorrow and/or Friday should be the coldest for Canterbury, though there'll probably be less moisture.

Some warm advective snow over the Canterbury foothills today. I wonder whether Methven got the snow? The front over the South Island is weakening by the looks so don't see the snow lowering much tonight.
