Cool thanks Tony

It feels like its widespread, especially through Northland and Coromandel just by the reports of flooding, road closures and some of the rainfall figures posted. Guess it depends on your definition of localised vs widespread

Whangarei 76.8mm
Pahia 50.8mm
Pinnacles Hut (Coromandel) 203mm
Tauranga 42mm

Reported road closures and flooding:
Poverty Bay
Whitianga
Wellsford
Kawakawa
Dairy Flat
Huntly
Karangahake Gorge
Various BOP locations
Various Waikato river systems

Media also reports heavy rain in Taranaki and some other lower NI locations

And now a heavy snow watch is out for Canterbury.

Yes, sure was widespread heavy rain here and there Tony. :)

A minimal or no risk of thunder today.. though it seems Taranaki/Lower King Country have the best chance. With a few warm cells bumping in this afternoon.

Will have to wait for that upper-trough to sharpen in the northern Tasman Sea.. maybe tomorrow?

Partly cloudy and mild, barometer continues to fall. :)

Most likely to be snowing on the high country already, but with 8C in Chch presently, I doubt it would as low as 400m just yet. That said, it's pretty bleak in the city, with drizzly rain and an increasing southerly.

I wish it would happen, too, matey, but don't think that's gonna happen :(

-EDIT: just had a pretty good sleety shower pass through here (Addington raceway area of CHCH)

Sleety? :? At about 6-7C, it's probably a bit too warm for that yet. Feels more drizzly than sleety in central Chch, but with the wind (and windchill), I can imagine someone perceiving the precipitation as 'sleety'.

Just had some graupel before so nearly sleet also 4C here.
Snow level would have to be 200m or slightly lower for sleet heard it's snowing in Hanmer Springs,Culverdon,Castle hill as of the last hour.
Radar looks interesting I don't know wether the models agree too greatly on sea level snow.
This wekend would have to be more favourable although still not enough moisture about.
Cheers
Jason.

It's continuing to be very wet here in Christchurch.
Just been out to check the rain-gauge and we have had 24.5mm here in Somerfield since 7:30am this morning.
Total for the event so far is 45.9mm and I think there is more to come.

Haven't been out there to check the raingauge.
Soil very dark and very nutrious looking...and lots of worms.
Planting them yesterday was much easier in the conditions, low cloud and light drizzle.
With this rain, it should give them a good start :D

nothing too unusual for wind here....you must have had some frontal line pressure or the low has some tight packed center which you are closer too, foggy?

It says on RNZ that Eastern Christchurch has been hit by "severe surface flooding" with the heathcote river over-flowing.

Looks like the Lindis and Desert Roads are shut due to snow and SH 38 due to a slip.

Most rivers in the Waikato are now above thier flood warning level.

Chrischurch City Council web page has some info re: the above...

http://www.ccc.govt.nz/

...in there they say:
"The situation is constantly being monitored with high tide not due until mid afternoon."
