Suns come through the clouds now, still very cold, doesn't look like we're in for any snow this time round!

I'm just north of Christchurch.
I will make a wish on my falling snowstar.

Cleared up a bit (still the odd shower coming thru) and I can see the Port Hills - snowline has retreated to above about 300m, and nothing on eastern hills, eg above Heathcoate.

I'd like to see you live on the Wellington south coast.

Only gusting to 52km/h at Island Bay or 59 at NZWN.. but wind tending southerly this afternoon and rising to gale. A real gale.

Probably local channeling - gradient SW or WSW like yesterday wouldn't do that. :?

After a very nice clear weekend, it's a very nasty afternoon  - classic unpleasant southerly (gradient flow would be SSW or S or SSE - in that range)

the wind did get to strong (25 knots or so), in Manurewa, but not Gale force ;)

i can see a half decent CB top way to my SW now...top blown off from the NNW

We don't do our bad weather in wimpy fashion... :)

But then (notwithstanding 2005) we don't get many of those damp, wispy, wimpy fogs... :D

- and we don't do endless changeability very much either... :)

Chch still being pestered by rain showers, with brief sunny intervals thrown in. Still a little snow on the higher Port Hills.

Just heard a report (from Trademe messageboard) of a large hailstorm in or near Matamata this afternoon.

anymore on the hailstorm
Sorry, at this stage, all I know is from a post from someone on a Tradme mb saying that they've just had a big hailstorm. I looked up their profile, which stated the poster lives in Matamata. Possibly just an intense hail shower, rather than large hailstones. Foggy should have a better view of Waikato weather.

Had a heavy hail shower which woke me up this morning at around 11am, but was too tired to look so I fell asleep again.

I did notice some weak land-based convection develop over the Waikato in the afternoon.. but all the rain was coming from Cbs in from the WSW over Hamilton.

But a look at the satellite suggests there could've been some strong convection ranging over the Central Plateau.. or what is typical lee-side high cloud.

Matamata is the only Waikato town where the view is highly blocked (due to Scotsman Valley) close to Cambridge. I can't comment on how big the hail was.. may have been quite big if the Cb top was high enough.

Chilly tonight here, and across into the BoP too by the looks.

Very nice cell over the western Tasman, sfericals are going off! :P

So after that non-event last weekend with no snow, this morning Mt Cargill and Flagstaff have a lovely white coating of fresh snow. Might take the company car up later for a look ;)
