Sorry, at this stage, all I know is from a post from someone on a Tradme mb saying that they've just had a big hailstorm. I looked up their profile, which stated the poster lives in Matamata. Possibly just an intense hail shower, rather than large hailstones. Foggy should have a better view of Waikato weather.anymore on the hailstorm

Had a heavy hail shower which woke me up this morning at around 11am, but was too tired to look so I fell asleep again.
I did notice some weak land-based convection develop over the Waikato in the afternoon.. but all the rain was coming from Cbs in from the WSW over Hamilton.
But a look at the satellite suggests there could've been some strong convection ranging over the Central Plateau.. or what is typical lee-side high cloud.
Matamata is the only Waikato town where the view is highly blocked (due to Scotsman Valley) close to Cambridge. I can't comment on how big the hail was.. may have been quite big if the Cb top was high enough.
Chilly tonight here, and across into the BoP too by the looks.
Very nice cell over the western Tasman, sfericals are going off!

So after that non-event last weekend with no snow, this morning Mt Cargill and Flagstaff have a lovely white coating of fresh snow. Might take the company car up later for a look
