Took the TranzAlpine to Greymouth today. Started snowing at about 600m and was heavy by the time we stopped in Arthurs Pass late morning. On the return journey it had settled down to 200m just east of Jackson. The guy doing the commentary said this was unusual for that side of the divide. Was still snowing in AP later but not as heavy.

I love the way that in that last picture, the snow sticks to the vertical power pole all the way to the top, but none on the horizontal cross-arm at the top. :?

Looks like there is snow on it to me, possible harder to see because the lack of contrast between the snow on the cross-arm and the background.

When I looked at Jeffsweather and the it said 0.9C with recent precip, I knew it had arrived, and a look out the window confirmed it.

Now that is one train ride I've always wanted to do, when there was snow on the alps. You got the best of the best, whilst it was snowing. Great stuff, I'm green with envy! :D

Nothing but alot of sleet here in redcliffs. Seems we must have a slightly warmer microclimate out here being sheltered from the wind.
