The hail was so loud here this morning at 5:56am. It came in waves you could hear coming through the trees. It sounded very big and heavy, probably larger than normal, can't confirm, was too tired to look.

Hailing in many parts of North Island today, eg Rotorua, Tauranga, and Napier. Was snowing this morning for a time in Stratford, Taranaki. (which is only about 300m asl I believe)

Passing rain showers in central Chch (a little sleet earlier in afternoon); I guess the flow's swung a little more directly to the south, pushing the showers that were previously affecting only BP, into the city.

Only -1C in Waiouru at 3pm - that's a very low midafternoon temperature even for a place at 800m; freezing level must be pretty low in the central NI.

Got pelted by heavy sleety graupel this afternoon twice. 8)
Interesting because I thought it was clearing.
Also nice heavy sleet shower on the way home very close to snow.
Still a few lonesome showers out there but not as widespread now.
Gonna be a coldy tonight into the negatives for sure.
Cheers
Jason.

Latest reports are of snow between Marton and Bulls - probably only about 100m asl. -5C in Waiouru at 9pm.
Another hail shower in central Chch earlier this evening, possibly sleet as well.
