At this stage it looks like snow to 150m over Fiordland and Southland. Otago and Canterbury should be relatively sheltered from this event I would think.

With the future high centered over SE Aus.. and the ridge intensified over the Southern Ocean it could get quite interesting.

I was going to put up a posting called "Monday-ICE-tis" but you have bet me too it by this posting. ..bugger =;
All these cold weather events seem to be occuring on a Monday. :-k
By the way I have put out my first thunderstorm warning of the forth-coming 2006/2008 thunderstormn season.
A 3 for sunday and a 1 for Monday.
These could alter as we get closer to the day.

I'd be surprised C-Nimbus considering it's been forecast a few times this winter and never eventuated. Really been a non-event winter down here compared to other parts of the SI. :D

I don't think the NW will be strong and there could be a bit of a coastal breeze element before the southerly change.
That's why I chose a 3.
Things could and probably will change before the change Sunday/Monday.

Monday in Invercargill looks good for a 30 knot S'Wester and a temp of 4C and horizontal hail. :)

MetService today is only forecasting snow to 400-500m in the South Island on Monday, but latest models suggest a much colder blast, eg GFS and GASP are going for below 520 thickness in the far south.

Is 1 a higher chance of thunder or 5? I've forgotten! And these numbers are only for Canterbury, right?
BTW, I think the first storm this season, i'm not gonna use my camera, i'll just let the weather gods rage above me while I watch!

Lets hope it's not the best storm of the season Andrew  I am sure there will be plenty this year.
Warming up nicly out there 19.8C could reach early 20's and tomorrow as well 8) .
I can certainly see more a spring like pattern occuring now with the weather outlook being NW-SW but more NW days meaning less colder days :D .
Cheers

Snow down to 200 metres in Canterbury and snow for Invers,Gore,Alex,Q'town,Dunedin and sleet to sea level for Oamaru,Timaru,Ashburton and Christchurch

Will it happen??

I don't think snow will get that low if anything Thunder looks more in favour for Monday 4-500m snow.
Can't complain about that 8) .
Otago Southland should see very low level snow though.
Cheers
