Another 1040hPa Anticyclone Looming

Unread post by NZ Thunderstorm Soc »

According to ECMWF, there looks like another 1040hPa potential high pressure area looming in the Tasmania/South Tasman Sea area.

As you can see John I don't like High pressure systems at this time of the year save them until January. :D

I don't either, Jase, but then I'm interested in it's intensity rather than the anticyclone's cumbersomesense, however if they stay where they are, causing cold air to come up from the south, with the heating we are getting, anticyclone's there can be usefull for thunderstorm development for Canterbury. :D

Yes that is very true John I see that high could come in handy this coming wekend GFS showing it well. 8)
Lets hope it hangs in there and although I don't mind the warm days latly because it is helping spring plant growth go up faster and is also good for them. But some rain will be needed so a cold blast should be the cure. ;)
Brought a new rain gauge today just a cheapy but better than my previous one which often wore out in the sun.
Cheers
Jason.

Looks cool and stable for the south later in the week, dont see low level snow(MetService) or much rain with a Ridge in and the low on to the far north.

..anyway, looks like this anticyclone could pose interesting weather here towards the end of the week, depending on how bumptuous the fronts are up from the south. ECMWF have this high moving in a more NE track ne from Tasmania, which is a good sign as we do NOT want those sort of highs over NZ at this time of year, especially as it is looking more La Nina-ish- see latest SOI graph.

I don't think we will see much of a settled period from his high, southern-westerlies will push the high north with the now-firing polar jetstream.
(it looks nice and big over Aus, but the continent creates the high pressure system, and that doesn't eventuate normally at this time of year, (I would think))

Sunny southeasterlies here Michael! :D 8)

Does look like quite a bit of southwesterly weather set to dominate.
