From my station in Alexandra.

Average temp: 7.2°

Max temperature: 21.8 °C (31st)
Average max: 14.7 °C

Lowest Maximum: 6.1 °C (7th)
Highest Minimum: 11.1°C (30th)

Min temperature: -7.4°C (10th) (<= 0°C on 20 days)
Average min: -0.3°C

Rainfall: 7 mm (on 3 days)
Max rain: 4 mm (12th)
For 2006 so far: 120 mm

Longest period without rain: 10 days
Highest pressure: 1030 mb (5th)
Lowest pressure: 992 mb (12th)

Cold first half of the month but warming in to spring with windy NW near the end of the month. Becoming very dry with exteme fire danger only 120mm of rain so far this year.

NIWA August report [remember these data are provisional]. The high values at Dunedin and In'gill contributed to record winter sun in both places.

...sorry about the lateness of this but I recorded 170.9mm of rain here in Somerfield for August and 94.5mm at our place at West Melton.
Total for year in Somerfield stands at 723.5mm so far.

Despite the wetness the winter was not far below the average temp., and was much sunnier than usual. But of course the 2005 winter was relatively warm and dry and culminated in an August that was exceptionally sunny and dry, as well as being milder than average.

As commented in the NIWA summary for winter - it was the coldest since 1997 for the country, but only 0.2C below average. As I observed elsewhere, every NZ winter 1929-1941 inclusive was colder...
