lol. Yeah, it's looking pretty ominous now. Very black out west with prefrontal high cloud observed signalling upper level cooling.

Potential for thunderstorms over the upper NI early next week
I'll be away on holiday.
This far out it looks a little bit interesting after a very boring winter here.

I think the dps are a bit on the low side at 13C. It could turn more active east of the country.

No, looks like the ridge will take control although anything can happen this far out.
I'm voting this the most boring winter I have seen in Auckland for weather.

Here too!
There was a heavy line surging into Great Barrier.. must've been some big totals there overnight.
Now a mostly fine and mild day with light westerlies.

Still looking like the Low will be onto the far North.

wow, the 3 NI boltecs are tracking an active large CB in the western tasman......sure has a huge range at times......(but they are being plotted way to close, if you check out the weatherzone sat image with lightning strike overlay ticked )

Yes, very nice storms over Sydney Metro last night
Distance plotting is the only problem with the Boltek, as it isn't designed really for long range storms.
What normally happens with these storms in the western Tasman.. mine and Ricky's boltek will trianguate the storm much closer, close to NZ, but this is false.
Still showing up on here from early this morning.

Looks like gale force winds in Sydney this morning too. They can get hammered by the southerly like Wellington does.
Hopefully conditions remain unstable in that low as it drifts across the Tasman.

I always use the boltek in conjunction with a recent sat pic, it's usually easy to see exactly where the storms are.
Yes, storms over Sydney last night. I can remember from my days living in Sydney those coastal blow ups can be spectacular

I would have thought the way this low was developing that there'd be a fair amount of chatter from northern folk. But it appears no one is thinking much of it?
Certainly looks like a wet weekend for the upper north

I'll be up in the Bay of Islands all weekend... I'd planned to take a bike up with me, but having looked at the potential rain... nah!
