Just not too sure which forecast is the most accurate.

(Day) (Night)
Increasing high cloud. Northwesterly becoming strong.
Fine much of tomorrow with high cloud, but some rain in the evening.
Fencepost for Saturday
A period of rain and strong to gale force northwesterlies on Saturday morning, then sunny periods increasing during the afternoon and winds easing; rather warm.
High 15 Low 9
I will wait with baited breath to see who is right.

No idea. I was in Chch and the wind was certainly not southerly, more like west south west. It did go NE for a few hours here this afternoon. I guess when you get sunshine and a fohn wind, it gets warm.NZ Thunderstorm Soc wrote:Excuse me, Tony T

Weak trough passed over. It was quite apparent on the satpic. Some of the clouds were quite puffy but we didnt see any showers here. Must admit though, I thought there would be a torrent of photos of the cumulus on the forum along with tearful laments of how nearly there was a thunderstorm, and that the hail at your place was almost going to damage your plants JaseJasestrm wrote:Welcome to Kindergarden everyone .
I had better have my say then .
Tony T why was there showers this morning? .
Cheers
Jason.

No. It was definately southerly at Halswell and here in Somerfiield, according to wind funnels and flags.TonyT wrote:No idea. I'd left Chch by 4pm, but checking the metars I see the warmest temps were in the WSW before the S change. The S wind was so light that there cant have been a significant change of airmass at the surface, so John, the explanation probably lies in the fact that the air which came across you as a southerly was the same warmish air which had been hanging around the Plains in the WSW flow earlier in the afternoon.
