NIWA summary for September - out early this time. Some noteworthy records. Nil rain at Kaikoura, many places very dry, a long list of temperature surpluses or record highs, and sunshine at Tekapo close to a national record high.

Locally a dull spell over much of the last week kept the sunshine down to only average, and reduced the temperature anomaly a little. However it was still a fairly dry month.

I was told that a spider had constructed a web around the tipping bucket mechanism which prevented it working. No-one knows how long its been like that. It certainly rained in Kaikoura last Thursday. At that time we got 7mm here, which took our monthly total from 4mm to 11mm. I think Chch only got 1-2mm for that event.RWood wrote: Nil rain at Kaikoura.
Sorry no. We dont archive the daily readings.RWood wrote: Maybe TonyT or someone else can oblige?

The highlights report indicates 3mm at Broadfield, Lincoln - perhaps that will hold up OK?

September was a rather dry but warm month.
We had a busy month for NW wind days up quite abit more than the last 2-3 years for September but NWer's are a normal occurance for Spring.
Warmest day was on Sunday 24th September on 24.3C.
Coldest day was on Friday 8th September on 12.7C.
Warmest overnight low and a record indeed for September was on Saturday night the 23rd on 19.8C.
A total rainfall of only 4.6mm for the month.
Dismal start to October lets hope it gets better and perhaps some storms too .
Friday 13th this Month .
Cheers
Jason.

Yes Jason, that is the day our house is moved from off this property to it's new home in West Melton.
NO Storm that day please
No storms until the roof is placed back on the house, please
...for the record only 7.8mm was recorded in Somerfield over 5 days for September.
