NZstorm wrote: A big local lightning bolt last few minutes.
Hail size was about 8mm.
That hail was quite a bit larger than here then, only about 2-3mm

Hail size was about 8mm.
Rainfall 18mm last hour, that takes our total to over 100mm since rain started yesterday.
Our hail diagnosis algorithm indicates 6 to 7mm hail in that area. Good to see the agreement.

Wow! That lightning was blimmin close to the sky tower....it may even have hit it, I'm not sure. Our central city office rocked like there was an earthquake.
I'd just got back from a lunchtime run up Mt Eden, that storm started off looking like a relatively insignificant shower coming over the north shore. Obviously theres some pretty significant convection up there given what it delivered!
Two days of really interesting weather up here after a lengthy boring spell....any more to come?

Stormvue picking up plently of lightning in past 15 mins around Auckland and the east coast of Northland. It seems to be feeding in off the Hauraki Gulf today and dumping on us

These thunderstorms suck. Too much rain and not enough thunder.

I expected to see more flooding on the way home tonight - not as bad as when I went to work at 6.30! Only 13mm in the rain gauge since 6am today so the flooding I anticipated wasn't as bad.

We had a cb slide down the coast - it was quite active with a lot of thunder. Not very pictorial - it was just black with some lighter scud

A friend has just arrived, telling me about the thunder & lightning out west today.
Here in South Auckland, just one distant roll of thunder and nothing else.
The storms were obviously very localised and lucky you guys

Weather has certainly eased over Auckland last few hours.
Looks like the action tomorrow will be over the central parts of the North Island into Gisboren/BOP. Convective activity will be proportional to the amount of daytime heating. If some good heating occurs I would expect heavy falls of hail with the storms that develop.
Good to see more photos.
