Is it the South Islands turn??
Weather watch issued for Marlborough and North Canty from the MetService...
An area of low pressure is forecast to cross the North Island during
Tuesday and Wednesday, directing strong moist southeasterlies and
rain onto eastern parts of Marlborough and North Canterbury. These
areas have been particularly dry and this rain is likely to be very
welcome. However, there is the possibility the rain could be quite
heavy and sustained from Tuesday afternoon through to Wednesday
afternoon, especially about the hills and ranges, which may warrant a
warning.

Canterbury high country should be getting a good dumping from this system (well at least Mt Hutt and further north); MetService is predicting snow down to 600m by tomorrow. I'm surprised they haven't issued a snow warning for Porter's Pass.come on gys get off the fence and tell me if I'll be in fresh snow this weekend???
Central North Island mountains should get some snow as well when the cold southerly hits later tomorrow.

Now now...its a good tactic for a dyed in the wool cantab to know thy enemy. And not a bad year to be the enemy within too, although theres a few North Harbour people who seem to think they won the log o wood....Weathermad wrote:Any Cantabrian that moves north of the Bombay hills gets less priority I'm afraid...I'm sorry but the rules are the rules and they are clearly set in concrete..(ok,ok, so in otherwords,I have no idea about Mt Hutt)

Sure is nippy here in Chch, overcast and still a blustery southerly.8 degrees but with the current windchill at zero, it aint a day for a bbq!
A Forecaster suggests there may be snow to low levels on the Port hills tomorrow...bbbrrrr
I see Melbourne and Adelaide are in the low 30's today....oh how I long for some warmth

44.8mm recorded today to go with the 29.6mm recorded yesterday. Most of this fell overnight and the Heathcote river was as high as I've ever seen it by Lincoln Rd / Halswell Rd this morning. Considering it rises just 5 or so km from here, it was very full.Weathermad wrote:I see Christchurch Airport(courtesy of the MetService), received 24 mm yesterday and 26mm since midnight and here too, it has stopped raining
The sou'wester overnight was gusting up to 80 kph
Wind at my place was gusting up to 55km/h but the sound of the trees outside at 3am made it seem stronger.
A couple of photos from the cycle ride to work this morning looking across at Spreydon School playgrounds.
