I see metservice have a thunderstorm symbol for ChCh for tomorow. Any tstorms that we may get will be very early. Probably well before most people are up. Also models only forecasting 4mm for ChCh, so really looking like an almost non event up here, unless of course there is localised heavy rain from any Tstorms.

Fairly dry air as you would expect with a polar blast, so not all that electrically active although many parts of NZ will get a rumble or two out of it.

A few heavy showers over AK at the moment as the front passes through.

That westerly sure is getting colder almost feels like a bitter southerly  .
Some nice Lightning I would say just spilling over the Plains to my NW seen a few IC light up the cloud.
Clouds moving in like a crowd now as stars are disapearing.
Lets see what overnight tomorrow brings :) .
Cheers
Jason.

There is a thunderstorm off the coast of Marlbough at present, so metservice thunderstorm outlook wasnt all that off the mark.

Saw abit of fluffly stuff about earlier this morning that really wasnt doing much.

A couple of heavy snow falls have been through in the last hour. Very dry snow, if you know what I mean. And the wind just blows any buildups on the ground away.
There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

Snow falling in Mosgiel currently (just sw of Dunedin), my parents live there.

Mosgiel is near sealevel. Very rare to get snow flakes to sealevel in October.

It certainly is variable...basically not a cloud in the sky here in Chch and looking at the radar, not many showers at all up the east coast north of Dunners

Cold wind and there have been a couple of decent hail showers this morning - enough sun though to ensure it doesn't lie long. One decent clap of thunder heard after midnight.

A tropical 14C in AK now but sunny.

Line of cb's visible far SW ( next front). A few more rumbles on the way for the Waikato I'd say.

Like yesterday afternoon, a cb passed just offshore to BP, this time to the southeast. Looked quite specatcular - if flow had been slightly more southerly, we'd have most likely got hail and more snow on the hills.
Coming back to Chch, the Alps looked a sight with a fresh coating of white, quite low down north of Mt Hutt. Sunny in Chch but cumulus now looks to be darkening to the southwest.
