Well the change must've come - however, the only thing happening in Chch has been a drop in temperature. No rain, not even any noticeable southerly wind.No sign of any cold change in Chch yet - still around 23C here with high cloud, but also sunny bits. 4pm obs showed the change hadn't gone much past Dunedin.

I see metservice are saying chance of thunder with the southerly change monday. Cant see this happening as change isnt coming thru till very late.
They also only forecasting high of 12°C probably more likely to get to around 21°C on monday with northerly turing easterly then late change bringing rain right thru tuesday. Will be a cold one tuesday with a brisk southerly keeping temp down.

Tomorrows thunderstorm chances could be quashed in the north by cloud cover. We really need to see that front clear early to give the day a chance to warm up a bit. Maybe Northland has the best chance of this happening. By Tuesday looks like Gisborne/HawesBay could be in the firing line for some afternoon thunder.
Interesting report Gregg.Palmerston North has had a good dowsing this morning (39.4mm so far). Quite a few streets were flooded in Palmy and Ashhurst.

I think tomorrow night could be interesting when the Cold southerly change arrives going up against the moist NE windflow and it's slight precipitation. Perhaps an hour or two of heavy downpours as the winds shift and the fact that it is a low colliding with a cold front.
I think this would be much different if it were during the winter months .
Just a possibility and I have seen downpours happen on such occasions as this.
2.2mm fell from around 5-7am so not too bad been cloudy and cool all day only reaching 11.8C.
Cheers
Jason.

Hang on Matt you've gotta be fair here, of course it happens but in Canterbury's case, doesnt happen very often as its a dry region with around 600mm-650mm per year and being sheltered from the westerlies (and storms/rains associated with a W-NW airflow), can't blame them for getting excited about a southerly change as those sort of air-flows normally bring the best of wet weather to Canterbury (storms and rain).

I mean are you really going to go hide under the bed when there is thunderstorms on the way or are you going to get out and film it I know I would because thats what we are storm chasers.
To me It's good to look at scenario's like tomorrow nights and plan just incase something interesting pops up and I Know you would too.
Cheers
Jason.
