yes, the CB's in the kaipara area are getting real lightning active...and they should move down this way!

the main front has gone through, and now we have shower lines in behind it
but maybe periods of rain might be a better to use than showers....
or even just changeable with rain and showers...

We had a nice gust front cross the area in the last half hour followed by showery rain.

these cb's are developing really well over northland now. Quite a strong line has just gone onto land in the last hour, just north of kaipara.

Yeah, It's raining here at the moment. It seems that when ever metservice forcasts a high risk for ts's we get nothing and when a low risk is forcast we get everything

I wouldn't call that gust front very spectacular. No more than 40km/h winds here. And rained heavily only 10 mins

The Lightning is up over Northland where they have had some heating.
No sun here at all today.
Here's a pic of the shower line moving onto the city but the heavy rain was very brief here, now just mod rain.

I always thought the term 'Rain' was only used if associated with stratiform cloud, and 'showers' with cumuliform cloud.
Edit, (in a forecast)

Starting to look quite interesting to the north, Tcu going up, some distant anvil, and an hour or two of sunlight left!

Thunderstorm development has moved in a SE direction from mid Northland down into Warkworth area along that line this afternoon.
The MetService convective outlook has been very good today but no Thunder over AK.

Dull with drizzly showers at times on Banks Peninsula today. (+ 1 briefly heavier shower about 3.30pm) Hasn't been showing up on Canterbury radar - maybe cloud's too low.

Yes I noticed that too Nzstorm. Looked quite picturesque for a moment didn't it?

Had half hour of very intense rain here in Swanson mid afternoon. Rest of day mainly moderate rain with a few sunny spells.
Got very humid before the downpour, was a mini version of the deluge a couple of weeks back, if it lasted another 2 hours it might have matched it.
Standing by for more action

Hi all havn't posted for a bit, but can tell u from the winterless city of Waipu, has been pretty good all day, then....around 4 it started raining, thundering along with lightning, then i thought someone had chucked a handfull of golf balls on the roof...bbut no......hail...... and temp dropped to 9deg here..............., hailed for maybe a minute then just the occasional hail stone being chucked down for about half an hr......wierd, now at nearly 9.30 is quite calm outside.......maybe the calm before the storm.......
